What is Generic Medicine?

Image
The generic name is the official medical name for the active ingredient of the medicine. List of Generic Medicines stores in India: http://janaushadhi.gov.in/jastores.pdf Medicines will often have more than one name: a generic name, which is the active ingredient of the medicine a brand name, which is the trade name the manufacturer gives to the medicine. The generic name is the official medical name for the active ingredient of the medicine. The brand name is chosen by the manufacturer, usually on the basis that it can be recognised, pronounced and remembered by health professionals and members of the public. An example would be Viagra - this is the well-known brand name given by Pfizer to the generic medicine sildenafil. (Brand names are capitalised; generic names are not.) Once the licence has been granted by the MHRA, the pharmaceutical company can then market the generic medicine under a brand name. The company then has exclusive righ...

Why we tend to put on fat?

Image
We have seen how after we stop growing in height all the vital organ systems of the body also stop growing. This means any addition to body mass (weight) thereafter is an extra burden and strain on the vital organ systems. Let us see how our body functions as an energy system. Many conflicting estimates, formulae and theories are put forward regarding our food requirements (mentioned in calories) and energy output (day to day activities and exercise schedules also converted into calories). These are all arbitrary and are not correct in majority of individuals. So, now we talk only of energy intake and energy output. Simply stated this means that the food we take in a day is the energy intake and can be calculated in calories by dividing the food intake into carbohydrates, proteins and fats. Energy output is the sum total of our day to day activities (work, move ment, breathing, digestion of food and any physical exercise that may be added). Without considering any of these details, the...

Health: Apple Peel may kill Cancer Cells

Image
Los Angeles: Apple peel may either inhibit or kill cancer cells, a Cornell University research has found. Cornell researchers analyzed the peel from 230 pounds of red delicious apples and isolated their individual compounds. After identifying the structures of the promising compounds in the peel, the researchers tested the pure compounds against cancer cell growth in the laboratory. They identified a dozen compounds - triterpenoids - in apple peel that either inhibit or kill cancer cells in laboratory cultures, according to the research published this month in the Journal of Agricultural and Food Chemistry. Three of the compounds have not previously been described in the literature. Lead researcher Rui Hai Liu, Cornell associate professor of food science, said three of the compounds have not previously been described in the literature. "We found that several compounds have potent anti-proliferative activities against human liver, colon and breast cancer cells and may be partially ...

Malaysian researchers create walnut 'Viagra'.

Kuala Lumpur: Malaysian researchers claim they have created a nutty alternative to Viagra based on walnuts in a pill more healthy than its pharmaceutical counterpart, according to a report on Sunday. Kim Kah Hwi, who headed the team of researchers from the University of Malaya , said he was inspired to look into walnuts after reading about their use in history, the Star daily reported. "I read articles about the Romans and French having eaten walnuts for this purpose. I thought if it had been documented that long ago, then there surely has to be something there," he told the newspaper. It took Kim and his research team two years to develop " N-Hanz ", tablets which contain walnut extract and have shown positive results on 40 volunteers against erectile dysfunction. "It takes about an hour for the effects to set in and it will last for about four hours," said Kim. "Furthermore, because it is not a drug, it is safe for those with hypertension or diabet...

Fish oil, chocolate may boost female sex drive

London: Here’s good news for women suffering from sexual dysfunction — a few simple dietary changes could improve their sex drive, say researchers. Female sexual dysfunction (FSD) includes a variety of disorders that are related to desire for sex, arousal during sexual activity, problems with orgasm or pain during sexual activity. It is also an extremely complex problem with a variety of possible causes, including illness, menopause, weight gain, poor nutrition, stress and psychological factors. A new, scientifically proven diet from the US suggests that a combination of fish oils, dark chocolate and controlling carbohydrates may be all that’s needed, reported the on-line edition of Daily Mail. In her book The Orgasmic Diet, author Marrena Lindberg has created a programme that she says not only boosts the sex drive, but aids weight loss, too. Four simple steps, which Marrena says, will help bring back libido in days. She advises women to boost their intake of fish oils, control seroton...
